
- This car, owned by Rocky Santa
Cruz is a hybrid, consisting of a built GSR engine in a 2000 Civic
Hatch. Its first successful pass consisted of 11.55@123 mph.
- The specifications of this car are 8.8:1 compression with JE
pistons. Head is B16A and intake is Type R. The turbo manifold is made
by South Florida Performance. Fuelling is via RC 550cc injectors and
Holly adjustable 1:1 fuel pressure regulator set to 55lb static.
- The car made 405 hp at 18lb boost, but as we were running at the
maximum duty cycle and fuel pressure it ran lean. For saftety we
reduced the boost. This engine has a lot more potential with more
boost, another 1000 rpm and bigger injectors. Look back here for an
update once larger injectors are installed. Even with the 550 cc
injectors the car was very streetable.
- The tuning took about 40 runs and 4 hours on the dyno, tuning for
part throttle, full throttle NA, and various boost levels. 10 of those
runs could have been eliminated had we realised the VTEC cam was not
switching due to faulty wiring. Once we fixed the faulty wiring, the
power jumped by 95 HP.
- By comparison a typical Haltec computer for this setup takes over
double the time to tune properly. With good dyno time at over $100 per
hour this is a significant saving. We have been told 140 dyno runs is
fairly typical for a Haltech computer. With further software
developments due soon, we expect to halve the Hondata tuning time to
about 2 hours, making the Hondata the fastest and least expensive way
to tune a Honda.
- Unfortuently 385 hp proved too much power for the differential and
driveshaft, which broke shortly after launching at the car's first
